Social and Decision Science Lab

(Lab Member Roster)

Welcome! Our laboratory conducts social and decision science, with specific interests in health, learning, and economic outcomes. The following are our current lines of inquiry.

Autonomy and Restriction on Academic and Health Motivation. In this line of work, we are interested in the role of autonomy-supportive and restrictive framing on academic (e.g., studying, procrastinating) and health (e.g., physical activity, healthy eating) motivation.

Social Anxiety Responses in Active Learning Classrooms. In this line of work, we are studying the effects of social anxiety on students’ classroom experience during socially interactive (“active learning”) activities.

Prospect Theory and Economic Decision-Making. In this line of work, we are investigating the self-regulatory moderators of loss aversion on career and economic decision-making.

Goal Source and Reactance on Health Decision-Making. In this line of work, we are interested in how goal source (personally- or externally-set) influences the relationship between reactance and health-related decisions (e.g., Do I take this medication?).

Cross-Cultural Reactance and Freedom Restoration. In this line of work, we are studying culturally-specific responses to reactance-inducing goal states and attempts to restore behavioral freedom.
